Drawing Foundations
This class is designed to initiate students into
the time-tested processes and methods as passed down by the old masters. All
principles of drawing in various media are taught in relation to materials and
historic procedures. Students complete renderings that range from life drawings
to architecture, landscape and still life. Work in this course includes using
traditional methods to size and prepare paper and panels, the history and
understanding of pigments, an introduction to grinding colors in oil,
preparation and use of mediums, ink making, and using white lead or gesso as a
ground. These foundation classes are required for further studies.
